I'm looking at house plans and I'm wondering what is the difference between these two?
Why is Floor Area bigger than Lot Area?

In real estate, a lot or plot is a tract or parcel of land owned and the floor area is a tract or parcel in the house.

Most cities require a minimum sized lot to build a house on. Your floor area is the size of the house. The lot area is the minimum sized lot left over after you build the house. In other words you add the floor area and the lot area and your building lot must be at least that big.
