Go with the brand that you can get serviced when needed.



Singer is just as good if you purchase a model that has the same features as you listed for the other brands.



None of the new brands will have the same "feel" as a Singer that was built pre 1970.



You need to try these machines as well as how helpful the shop is.

You only need 2 stitches - straight and zig zag. You need to factor in the cost of a yearly tuneup, which can be anywhere from 30 to 90 dollars. Not having the tuneup is the cause of 95% of machine problems. Fooling with the bobbin tension is the cause of the other 5%. You won't always save money, because there are plenty of clothing bargains if you don't mind using exploited, pollution-causing Chinese slave labor. But you will have a lot more choices. That seems like a good price. .
