Question:
Are there any alternatives to double paned glass windows for a newer home?

I've noticed that homes that have double paned windows commonly have them lose their seal which allows air in and out and lets moisture between the panels of glass. My home needs some of these windows replaced. Are there any alternatives for these type of windows that will fit my home? It is about 15 years old. I hate to replace them and have them continue to lose their seal on a regular basis

You should check with a home improvement store.

There are triple pane windows and you can still buy single pane.

the reason double/triple pane windows lose their seal is because of the construction of the window itself, or the spacer that keeps the panes of glass apart. most new construction and contractor grade windows are only made to last 3 - 5 years before they begin to have problems. seal failure is one of the most common expecially in aluminum framed windows. if you are looking to change your windows, go with a good quality window. it should be double pane for insulation (triple pane has double the seals so is more likely to have seal failure and is very heavy and can cause problems to frames and balances due to weight) and have a good spacer. argon gas is a very good option for insulation and sound deadening. low-e glass is another very good option for energy efficiency(helps keep house cooler in summer and warmer in winter) if you are looking at new windows, be prepared for a price higher than you anticipate. good windows are not cheap, but make sure that the company you are buying from is reputable and has been around for a while. make sure they warranty both the manufacturing and installation of the window and make sure the seal is covered for as long as you own your home(lifetime warranty may only cover you for a few years). if window frames are still in good shape, there is a company that can repair sealed glass units. they are out of canada and only have a few franchises in the U.S. it is also possible to only replace the glass units in a window. it is best to replace all insulated glass units in the window at the same time so viewing through the window will not look funny. make sure they use a good spacer and warranty their work.

Most of the better window manufacturers have a guarantee and have no problem replacing the faulty windows within that timeframe.

You can also look for triple panes but I'm not sure that answers your question. And single pane windows defeat the purpose.
