I want something bigger than liquor store boxes (free). Last time I used legal file boxes which were fairly cheap from office depot.

You don't need cheap, you need inexpensive. Go to the Home, the Home DEEPOTT. That's Home Depot. They sell moving boxes in various sizes. And buy the packaging tape they sell. Tape the bottom, running two strips lengthwise with the crack :) that's formed when the bottom of the box is folded into place, and run two strips across the ends of the bottom. Now that's thinking outside the box.

All my boxes have come from Wal Mart or friends who work in retail stores. Also you will find a lot of people listing boxes on craigslist in the free section(at least here in the Tampa Bay area) If you spend a little time and effort you shouldn't have to pay anything at all. Also see if Yahoo groups has a freecycler in your area, then go on and post a wanted ad.

I would suggest that you look for moving boxes that are high quality boxes at very low prices. There are a million ways to get "cheap boxes".....the best way is going to a dumpster and digging out any old box you can find. The problem is these boxes are not meant for moving and you have a higher risk of breaking valuables. They don't stack and many don't even have tops on them!
I would suggest that you buy discounted boxes, but ones that are meant for moving. I suggest order boxes online (to make it easy). Look for companies that sell professional quality moving boxes, OR if you are having your mover pack you, use their moving boxes. (All movers that are licensed and insured sell industry standard moving boxes.....1.5 cubic, 3.0 cubic and 4.5 cubic.)
An interesting thought........if you spend $85-$125 on moving boxes lets say, but it protects $5000-$100,000 or more worth of stuff......then it is worth it. It would only take one moving damage of something special to cost you money, or break something special.
