Basically I want to grow sweet sorghum(a relative of the sugar cane) in my back garden but when I've looked online, I can only seem to find the seeds from sellers in Australia. This involves importing the seeds. I have looked around on the internet but I haven't been able to understand or decipher anything so I don't know if I can buy the seeds or not. If someone could explain the import laws on grass seeds (sorghum being a grass) that would be excellent or even a link to the import laws that would be relevant. I am not doing this on a commercial scale. As I said it is just in my back garden so only about 15 plants per season really at a guess.

Background info on sweet sorghum: It is a relative of sugar cane which can survive in colder climates and is a type of grass which grows pretty tall. It has a sugar content in the stalk similar to that of sugar cane and this variety was originally bred for molasses in Northern America in the 1800's I think.

Hope this helps.
Thanks in advance everyone :)

You should be able to import seeds from a certified seed supplier. Then they will have all the relevant health documents with them. I would not ask a friend to put some in an envelope & stick them in the post as they could be intercepted by UK Customs.

An awful lot of gobbledegook and red tape involved here I think.

You can try trawling through the following, it may help, or find the phone no for defra and ask them.

It all seems to be rather a lot to go through though.
