so my worst nightmare has come true. months upon months of being TERRIFIED of these little f*ckers, i found a bed bug on my couch on Wednesday (it is now Friday). we have no idea how it got here, but i don't think that really matters. we had our building's exterminator come in today and he confirmed it being a FEMALE ADULT BED BUG. This terrifies me because i know that the females lay so many eggs a day. he checked all 5 beds (mine, my three brothers, and my parents' beds) and all three couches. he did not find anything. but told us that we will know if we get anymore in about 10 days since that is when the eggs usually hatch. he said our matresses and couches are clean.. however, i woke up today to 5 bites on my lower back.. classic bed bug bites.. all in lines.. even though i have terrible skin (i have eczema and dry skin) i knew they were bed bug bites. and the exterminator said that there was blood in the bug we found since we killed it and put it in a zip lock baggy. so i'm assuming that the bug i found bit me and i kinda noticed an itchy spot yesterday but today i really felt it as soon as i woke up. I know how annoying these fu*kers are so we're trying to nip it in the bud and protect ourselves before it gets worse. i'm just absolutely devastated because i've done everything to try and protect myself. we've had company over recently so maybe one of our house guests gave them to us. anyway, he told us to get box spring encasements, and we're gonna buy a vacuum cleaner tomorrow to clean the couches and beds from all the dirt in them. he also told us to buy Sterifab disinfectant spray. does anyone know about this? we don't know where to buy it and we don't wanna buy it online cause it's gonna take too long. anyway, do you guys know where we can buy the spray and the encasements? i'm terrified of whats to come.. i'm trying to stay positive but this honestly is my worst nightmare coming true. my 18th birthday's coming up soon and i'm just so disgusted this had to happen at this time. anyway...we stripped all of our beds and i'm currently washing all of our bedding in hot and warm water and i put everything in driers for 60 minutes (1 hour) on hot heat. i just..i'm so upset. please someone tell me where we should take it from now...
i'm so nervous. please don't tell me that this is going to be hell to defeat, because i'm well aware. just please tell me about what we can do so we don't get a bad infestation and can get these fu*kers out of my house if there continues to be more.

thanks..i'm sorry this is so long.

Its something that just happens,. Just like Kids with Clean hair get Head lice.

It depends hun. there are a load of Natural and Chemical things you can try. One is a mix of Boric Acid ( of about 2%) so per 100Ml of water, you add 2 ml of Boric acid. THis dry's them out ( its also usefull for Cockroaches i hear)

Alternatively, You can try Bicarb of Soda, Sprinkled on your bed/Furniture then Let is lay for about 20 minutes. Vacuum the Bed mattres/ furniture Toroughly . Once you did this, Spray it with a mix of Citronella Oil and Tea tree Oil Mixed in a Spray bottle. Dont get the Furniture too wet. and let it dry in Strong Sunlight.

To prevent it, just Flip your Mattress over and Hoover it once a month.

Even the cleanest houses get them, Its what you do about them that matters

Cleanliness has nothing to do with bed bugs. They are becoming rampant these days, largely due to the large amount of travel and stuff being shipped around the world. Also, the pesticides that killed the littler MF'ers years ago are now banned. The best suggestion is to keep cleaning everything you have an call in a professional exterminator. Expensive, but unfortunately the only way to get rid of them safely.

To prevent getting bed bugs again (and we have never had them, but used to travel a lot for work), here are some tips:

1) Always WASH EVERYTHING you buy as soon as possible, clothing, bedding, towels etc. Whether it is from the 99 cent store or Lord & Taylors, bed bugs are unfortunately not snobs.

2) Whenever you travel, wash all of your things the minute you get home. It wouldn't hurt to clean the luggage either.

3) Cross your fingers. They are in the sleaziest of places and in some 5 star hotels

DON'T let people make you feel like there is something wrong with your personal hygiene or your housekeeping skills. Like you said, it's a matter of luck. Pity the poor guy who insulted you when he gets them (or maybe not!!!)

Bed bugs stay inside of walls during the day. They come out during the night. They can go from apartment to apartment that way. They can crawl through the electric plugs.

This site tells about bedbugs. http://www.badbedbugs.com

Hardware stores should have the spray. Places like Lowes and Home Depot carry a lot of Sprays.

It has been in the news about the come back of bed bugs. They are all over. New York has been in the news and different pkaces. DDT spray that killed the bugs was banned years ago.

For example, when you come home from your journey it is best to look at your garments as well as bags instantaneously. In case you receive home secondhand couches, mattresses, armchairs, and similar, very carefully look for signs and symptoms of bedbugs. In any case it is the most beneficial not to bring in these materials home. Fixing and closing the many fractures and openings in your house are a way to protect against bedbugs from infesting your own home. We have simply noted several procedures you'll be able to decide to try stay away from bed bugs, yet all over again we will need to declare that bed bugs never transmit any sort of infections.

My friend lives in an older apartment in downtown Toronto and has a big problem with them. Because of the high population density there is nothing that can be done since they wander in from other apartments and other buildings. She wrapped her mattress in plastic wrap. Lots and lots to make sure there is no little opening. She washes her linens as you mentioned in hot water and very often. She also vacuums a lot including her sofas. Never leaves clothes ont he floor. This keeps them away for the most.
