I am having difficulty starting my propane fireplace. I just moved into this house and the guy left no instruction manual. I turn it to pilot, hit the starter and the flame comes up. When I go to release pilot to go to gas, the pilot goes out. I tried just using a lighter over the gas treads and turning the gas on, but that didn't work either. Any idea and/or suggestions?

If there are ANY model or serial numbers on the unit I may be able to tell you what brand it is if you post it. Either way, a pilot is a pilot. Try turning the knob to the On position while it's still pushed in or holding it longer. If that doesn't work you may have to have it serviced by a local professional.

try holding the pilot lite button down for a minute or two. if it don't light let a few minutes pass before you try again., if all else fails, look up the factory and see if they have a manual, most have web sites and post manuals online., if it is not , call them and ask for a manual or help , they might be able to talk you through it over phone

Turn off the gas to the unit for at least 5 minutes. Turn knob to Pilot, depress, light pilot and keep the knob depressed for at least one minute. If it goes out when you release it, you need a new thermo-coupler.

When you pilot the burner you should wait till thermocouple get hot to temperature design to open the valve gas .If did not turn on there's problem in valve or thermocouple.
