What can I do about someone else's mail coming to my house?

I have lived in my house coming up on five years. Recently, I started getting mail addressed to someone who has never lived in this house - I know, because I bought it from the original owner - and the address is my house. It has me concerned that someone is using my address for criminal purposes. Any advice as to why this might be occurring, and how I can make it stop?

put return to sender on the envelope and give it to the mail person

Write not at this address and Return to Sender on the unopened envelope and put it in your outgoing mail box.

This only works for first class mail. Magazines, bulk mailings and junk mail you can just recycle.

According to my local post office and the USPS 800 number, the only thing you can do is request that only mail with your last name be delivered. You have to fill out a form or something. I chose not to do it because if I have a relative stay with me and they need something sent it won't be delivered.

Put it back into your mailbox and write on it nobody lives here by that name. The mailman will pick it up and take it away.
