Will using vinegar to clean do damage to concrete water fountains?

We'ver been using vinegar on and off to clean / keep clean a garden water fountain. The umbrella of the fountain has broken into large pieces, and the concrete surrounding the fountain shows evidence of surface changes. I can't think of any other reason why we're seeing what we're seeing.

The fountain is over 20 years old, but it doesn't seem right that the umbrella would break up like it did. (?!)

Need help.

Yes the vinegar could have disintegrated the outside of the garden fountain. Because of the acid and the chemicals in vinegar. :D I would stop using it.
