My room smells like death?

I smell formaldehyde in my room lately, and sometimes I'll smell smoke. For awhile, I thought it was just me, then my mom and sister smelt it. It's only in my room. It literally smells like a dead body. It's mainly around my closet area. I've checked and cleaned out everything but the smell still remains. It's really odd and is starting to get on my nerves. Dead body smell is not welcoming. :\ What is this? Could it actually be formaldehyde?! What about the smoke? Thanks :)

Formaldehyde may be present in your home if your have foam insulation in your walls. It's also in a variety of household products. Open your windows for better air flow and to reduce the smell that's in your room.

You most likely have a dead creature in your wall. You have 2 options. 1. Locate the area of the strongest odor and open the wall and remove it. 2. Wait a few months until the creature dessicates enough to stop smelling. There are also enzyme odor sprays that can be used to decrease the odor, especially if you can get some into the area where the creature is. Some pest control operators offer dead animal location and removal for a fee as well.

I would definitely check the exterior of the house to see if there are any openings large enough for something to have gotten into the attic or walls of the house. A large rat can fit through a hole the size of a quarter. I would seal up any holes larger than a dime.

Check to see if the smell is coming from an electrical outlet, if so maybe it is shorting and causing the smell. Maybe you have UFFI (spray insulation used in the 70's & 80's) It contains formaldehyde.

An exterminator has a meter that checks for moisture in the walls. Try that so you are not destroying everything in the room. Would expect water damage or mold of some kind.

Well the only thing to do is move your wardrobe out of the way and see whats behind it might be a dead mouse or rat because once that happened in my house too and it stunk so just move the wardrobe too see whats behind it :)

Check under your mattress, and make sure that nobody is using the oven or dryer. If you actually find a body your sister did it and you should stab her immediately.

Probably a dead possum (or other animal) under the house right about where your closet is.
