I had my old cement porch removed and a new cement porch installed. The problem is there is a 3/4 inch gap along one side of the porch (approx. 3 ft in length) that would connect to the house. There is also a 4 inch void when you measure down into this gap.
What is the best way to correct this problem. I plan on contacting the contractor to fix the job. Thank you

It really depends. Was it supposed to be connected to the house? The contractor really should fix it, but if he doesn't you could go to Lowe's or Home Depot and get some of their expanding foam. It's really cool. It comes in a can and you can spray it down into the crack and it will spread to fill the gaps. After it dries you can cut it, sand it, or even paint it. Or you can get some moulding that is wide enough to cover the gap and put that along the crack.

Call your contractor and ask what the void was there for. Sounds like it could be a concrete expansion joint (but it would run the entire length of the slab along the house), or it could just be where he had his formwork (sounds like the dimensions of a 1x4).
