We have a few on the window ledge . They are pretty but no matter how careful I am when opening windows the evil things prick. Why are they prickly?

all this talk of hammers-

has me thinkin’ ‘bout that night-

in arizona and that damned cactus,

that got stuck in the tires,

in the roaring heat of the day

that followed through until a milky,

effervescent night.

its a hoax, the dreaded hammer-

the prick of the cactus that bleeds you

and passes it off as its own blood,

like a swift gesture

of that bloody blow the tool

delivers

or the smooth and quick burn

of roadside indigestion delivered in

a greasy spoon—

with an angelic smile from the waitress,

you would have taken in a minute,

right on the dirty floor,

that somebody forgot to mop the night before

but you reconsider

when the hammer creeps up behind you

and shakes its rusted little head

and lets you make up for it on the way home

in a pool of the cactus’s blood.

They were created to be prickly. To protect their water in a desert setting? I've never had the misfortune of being pricked by a cactus. Is there another spot that might be better for the prickly little devil?

I never use face cloths because I was led to believe that, for the same reason one should not use damp towels, they can transmit infection (e.g. yeast/fungus/candida albicans). If you can boil them after each use it is more hygienic. However, I think they can look discoloured simply because of the amount of rubbing/abrasion they receive in the same small area, and from the colouring in any soap/gel you may use with them.. If you were using the same part of one towel with the same frequency you use a facecloth, it would soon be threadbare. The best thing is to keep replacing them - they're cheap enough - even Tesco & Asda sell them for less than 25p.

I would be prickly if I was a cactus and you opened a window, they like warmth and no chilly breezes, imagine them catching a cold and sneezing those prickles all over the place.

I have several cacti around my pool. I can "NEVER" trim them without getting stickers in my hands. I have tried wearing leather gloves and rubber gloves elbow high. Still get the stickers. I have found small dead birds that have gotten stuck on them. I guess it is to protect them from "whatever".

I dont know what daft means but it hurts and makes me angry. Its to protect them from animals eating them in the desert.
