Don't let them in your house. These Kirby salesmen (and women) are very aggressive and will try to force you to buy their products. Tell your cousin to stop sending them to your house! As for which product is better, I have personally owned both products (still have my Rainbow 12+ years) and can honestly say that Rainbow makes a better product. You may get a Kirby cheaper, but for the money, Rainbow will last a lot longer than the Kirby.

Definitely the Rainbow, The Kirby used Bags which even though it uses Hepa Filtered bags, it still leaves dust behind. I know because I own the newest one right now. and in the process of getting a Rainbow. My parents had a Rainbow and I got so used to using the Rainbow that when I got the Kirby thinking it was better Vacuum I quickly found out that it was not. I get burning eyes and nose from the the air that it blows out. Also, it you were to vacuum over a wet spot you would need to quickly change the bag, cause mold grows in the bag and leaves a horrible smell. I have kids, who are constantly spilling things on my carpet so that's my problem. But when using the attachments on the Kirby they easily come apart while using them so they get stuck under beds and furniture where you have to crawl under to fish them out. Also when using it as a shampooer, you immediately have to change the bag and it leaves your carpet very wet. and doesn't do a good shampoo job. Rainbow is so, so, so much worth the cost. No paying $16 a month on bags just dump the water out. I am in the process of getting a Rainbow and dumping my Kirby!

I have tried both , and really think the rainbow was the better vacuum.

I say go ahead and let the Kirby people come, get the free carpet cleaned for free, And just tell them you have decided to go with a different vacuum (even if you don't actually get one)

We actually have a Rainbow water vacuum at home and it works really good. Since we got it back in 1990 or so, we've only had to change the main motor in the cannister and the motor in the upright attachment once or twice. We got a good deal on it and I don't remember how much my parents paid for it. I got really frustrated and wondered why they bought it when it the motor started failing; but when I took it in to the repair shop, the guy was telling me what a good vacuum it was. Now it's working like new. I advise you to get the water vac because it catches dust and lint better than any bag or bagless will. Only thing is, you have to lug the cannister, upright, and hose attachments along and have a place to put them when you done using them. Just don't knock the cannister over and you'll be ok. That shouldn't be hard with a little common sense though!

I went the Kirby road and though I was impressed when I first got it, now I am not either impressed or disempressed with it. A Kirby is a great vaccuum cleaner, but really any vaccuum is just as good if you maintain it.

I paid $1180 for my Kirby and it was well worth it! It has a front drive system not a hose drived system which makes it much better then the cheap plastic Dysons and big box store brands (even though Dyson has some great marketing commercials). Trust me, you will never understand how well it cleans, until you walk on the freshly vacuumed carpet with barefooted.

My boyfriend used to sell Kirbys and swears by them. My mom used a rainbow growing up. I think that a Kirby is better at cleaning. Definitly get the demonstration so you can compare for yourself. If you can get the salesperson to vacuum your mattress. When you see how much crap it pulls out you will be sold. Also letting them demonstrate will help your cousin and the salesperson out.

RE:

Kirby Vacuum vs. Rainbow Vacuum?

I had a Rainbow demonstration a few months ago. i was highly impressed but didnt have $1800 to purchase a vacuum. Now I have a sales person coming over to show me a kirby. (my cousin keeps sending them my way so she gets free stuff). Two questions... One. If I do decide down the road to buy one,...

That's a lot of money to pay for a machine that just sucks dirt up off of the floor. But I have a couple of friends with Rainbow vacuums and they love them. My Mom has one that is over 20 years old and it works just great.

I think they are a bit heavy compared to the Dyson vacuums I have looked at, but the quality is very high for a household item.

If I were you I would stop the sales game right away before you find yourself in debt for a very expensive vacuum. It's way less expensive to have people come out and clean your carpets for a fee!

I have a Kirby and I Love it. Especially the lifetime warranty.

Never heard of a rainbow but I'd go with a company that has a good, longstanding reputation like Kirby.

The amount of $$$ and time wasted with the ones sold in dept. stores, etc. has well exceeded the price I paid for the Kirby.

I just started selling for Kirby and the sweeper is awesome and has a lifetime warranty and the sales ppl are not aggressive least the ones I've met at the comp isn't. And plus the Kirby is rated 11 on the hepa . Which is the highest I would look into the Kirby they r not a pile of junk if they was the company wouldn't have been open as long as this.next year marks thier 100th anniversary for selling sweepers

Please do not waste your money. My wife used to sell for Rainbow and a lot of the "demos" they do are tricks that most high quality vacuums can do. We used to have a Kirby and it was a 30 pound piece of junk. Another thing to consider is that if you need simple parts like filters or belts you have to order them from the company at inflated prices. Go to epinions.com to read reviews of current owners. I would recommend a Dyson or Kenmore. These both have high ratings for upscale vacuums.

Don't waste your money on either one. They are way overpriced and do not do a better job than the more common ones.

Have the demo and get your rug cleaned but then say thanks but no thanks.
