A Gas Safety Certificate is important to make sure the cooker has been fitted correctly but I do not understand why it needs to be chained to the wall. Good luck. gladgran

There is no requirement to chain a gas cooker, or any cooker, to a wall. However you should have been issued with a current Landlord's Gas Safety Certificate on the day you moved in.

Ask your landlord to issue you with a copy asap as he is in breach of the Housing Act and is liable to prosecution. It is a criminal offence to let accommodation with gas appliances without a valid certificate.

contact ur landlord and to you all.... gas cookers do need to be chained to a wall. one simple reason. if a kid happened to stand on the oven door what do you think would happen.. 1 perfect reason why it should be chained..and no he cant be fined for it. you should get a copy of cert as a landlords cert comes in 3 leafs. get on with ur landlord and speak to him about ur problems..

You seem more concerned about "getting him fined" than ensuring proper safety.
WRITE to him/ his letting agent asking for the check to to done and if no joy, call Environmental Health.
