To keep your house cool in the summer, which side of windows do you open/close?
We live in northwestern Missouri and it gets HOT!!! We are penny-pinchers and a friend of ours told us that closing your windows will keep your house cooler in the summer. Unfortunatly, she doesn't know which end to close. We live on the Northern side of our street, if that makes a difference. Please help!

Generally, you'd want to open the windows at night, when it's cool, and then close them (all of them) in the morning, in order to keep the cool air inside.

Otherwise, you'd want to open the windows on the shady side of the house. For the most part, this would be the north side, since the sun will be to our south. That said, you'll want to adjust them west-to-east, as the sun moves across the sky. Since the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, you'd want the western windows open in the morning, and the eastern windows open in the afternoon.

The trick is to no longer open the homestead windows in case you house is already cool beginning the homestead windows will deliver in warm hair. besides the fact that, in case you like a breeze, the homestead windows that don't have sunlight hitting them are those to open. in case you open the homestead windows that the sunlight isn't coming in on, then the breeze would be cooler coming in than a window with the sunlight hitting it. additionally..... warmth rises. in case you have a 2 tale homestead you may do exactly right by way of retaining the decrease point closed and beginning the 2d tale homestead windows, yet make advantageous you in basic terms open the homestead windows the place the sunlight isn't hitting them or comin in. the nice and comfortable air out of your place will get away interior the direction of the 2d tale homestead windows and go away the 1st point cool. It gets problematical. If its humid you are going to have issues no rely what. I lived in St.Louis and that i keep in mind how warm it gets there. Wow!!! And humid toooo. One final hint...do no longer positioned a fan interior the window it is blowing air IN. this might suck warm air into your place. place a fan interior the non sunny window on the 2d tale with it blowing out, removing the warmth air out of your place. Make experience? because of the fact the nighttime turns cooler, then open up each and all of the doorways and homestead windows to chill out the finished homestead. Then close each and every little thing lower back up interior the morning or previous due at nighttime to maintain the nippiness interior.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "which end to close". Either a window is open or it's closed.
